Version 1.25.4 Another One!?

The thing about making major changes to a large body of code or large data structure--even if the changes are an improvement and designed to reduce bugs in the long run--it's still gonna inevitably cause bugs. It's just how these things go, whoever does it. I was kind-of expecting this, so planned on having incremental releases. I've tried to at least add some content or other new things each time though, so that at least it's not quite as annoying.

The same is true this time, there's a little bit more stuff, some improvements, and lots of fixes. This will probably be the last incremental release, just because we've gotta get moving on 1.26! However, one thing we added to the game in this incremental is a new system I had been toying with. Basically, it's a "patch" setup. It'd allow us to more easily distribute a patch file containing fixes for the more minor kinds of bugs we don't usually do a whole incremental release for.

Mobile Version

One thing that hasn't changed over the years is the desire to play AW on mobile. While I understand the reasons for that, it's also true that AW really wasn't meant to be played on mobile. The layout, the processing required, and the extensive use of mouse hover and controls that aren't touch friendly are all things that get in the way. And the problem is, while most people will understand that and accept the limitations, there are always some who will take things for granted and expect things to work perfectly on a platform it isn't meant for. (It's a surprisingly regular occurrence for people who find the game hosted in an iFrame on a pirate site to come and ask for--or even demand--support) But despite all that, I DO want to respond to people's desires to have more flexibility in where they play. I think decent Galaxy Tab with s-pen, or iPad with pencil would be a pretty decent platform. I could even see larger screened phones working pretty well if we changed the UI up a bit.

So this is a bit of a "first step" in trying this out. Because of the issues above with the uninformed, I'm going to limit it to Tier 2+. For now I'm also going to stick to a [backer] build because of the extra time/work involved. (If you have a higher build, you could always edit your character or whatever and then save to file, and then load that in mobile.) Right now this build technically works. However there are some caveats, of course. The biggest is that there won't be any AI portraits, videos, or audio, and certain items like Pleasure Buzzer games and mods won't work. Not a huge deal, but worth noting. If you make mod clothing at tight threads, it should work for that save as long as you don't use any custom images... but it's untested.

I'm not going to give this a high priority, but with enough testing and feedback we can start slowly making a better version. I'm not sure if it'll ever be ideal, but it can probably become more playable. Feel free to try it out and let us know about your experience.
